About Human Growth Hormone

What is Human Growth Hormone (HGH)?

A protein produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the liver to produce somatomedins, which stimulate growth of bone and muscle.

This definition comes from The CancerWEB Project at the Dept. of Medical Oncology, University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Today, human growth hormone is the focus of much interest and discussion. People argue both sides, highlighting the benefits and/or identifying the potential dangers.

In laymans terms, Human Growth Hormone or HGH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland (master gland which promotes linear growth). The pituitary gland is located in your head, below your brain. HGH production occurs largely in our youth, coming to a peak in our 20’s. After our 20’s, a slow decline of HGH production naturally occurs. Generally speaking, by the time we reach and pass the age of 40, our bodies are producing sub-optimal amounts of HGH.

Adults who don’t have enough human growth hormone, even those of normal height, can suffer from lack of energy, muscle weakness, emotional distress, and other problems. HGH is a powerful hormone that research indicates may have an important role in controlling areas of your brain that involve your emotions. You might also feel tired, weak, and not interested in doing things you normally would do.
